Suggestion for a short run away from the City Centre + GPX

Since sightrunning Ljubljana is my hobby, I often don't have time to go running with you :( But here is an Idea where you could go running on yur own.

This is not a path where we do the Sightrun, Sightrunning route is in the City centre. But this is the path I usualy take when I go running on my own.

Enjoy!

Ohh and here is GPX. But you don need it path is well marked and wide.

🏃‍♂️ Running Route: Prešeren Square → Jakopič Promenade → Šišenski hrib → Rožnik (Cankar Peak)

  • Distance (one-way): approx. 6–7 km

  • Elevation gain: ~180 meters

  • Surface: mix of city pavement, gravel, and forest trails

  • Difficulty: Moderate (due to steady uphill segments)

🗺️ Step-by-Step Guide

1. Prešeren Square → Tivoli Park (~1 km)

  • Start from Prešeren Square, Ljubljana’s central and iconic meeting point.

  • Head up Čopova Street and cross Slovenska cesta.

  • Continue along Cankarjeva Street, past the National Gallery and Modern Art Museum, until you reach the entrance to Tivoli Park.

2. Jakopič Promenade → Tivoli Mansion (~0.5 km)

  • Enter Tivoli Park via the Jakopič Promenade, a wide, tree-lined path often lined with outdoor photography exhibits.

  • Run straight toward the Tivoli Mansion, surrounded by gardens and sculptures.

3. Toward Šišenski hrib (~1.5–2 km)

  • At Tivoli Mansion, take the left forest path toward Šišenski hrib.

  • The trail gradually ascends through thick woodland and is well-marked.

  • Šišenski hrib (429 m) is the highest point in the Tivoli–Rožnik–Šiška Hill Landscape Park.

  • From the top, enjoy peaceful forest surroundings and a short rest if desired.

4. Šišenski hrib → Rožnik (Cankar Peak) (~1 km)

  • Follow signs or trails southeast to Rožnik Hill.

  • The path gently descends and then ascends again to Cankar Peak (394 m).

  • At the top you’ll find the Church of the Visitation, a small inn, and a monument to the Slovenian writer Ivan Cankar.

5. Optional Return Options

  • Return along the same trail or take a different forest path back down to Tivoli Park.

  • You can also descend toward Trnovo or Rožna dolina, depending on your preferred loop.
